Meet Sky Lopez!

9781626816657_FC“The first time I’ll wear white to a wedding, I won’t be the bride.

I turn in the full-length mirror, admiring the way the soft white satin hugs my Hamptons-summer-kissed skin. When I tried the dress on back in April, it was snug on my hips. Then, I was in Boston working night shifts at the hospital that included a steady supply of pastries, cold pizza, and coffee. When I wasn’t working the graveyard shift, I was clinging to the arm of my perfect boyfriend with one hand and downing cocktails with the other. I’ll say one thing about this break-up—it’s the only one that’s ever caused me to lose weight instead of pile it on.

That and wedding planning.

Wedding planning is a stressful business, especially when the groom is your uncle, and your entire family gets to see your life plans spectacularly come apart at the seams.”

Meet Lucky Pierce!

Luck on the Line cover

“The universal rule of servers is: the bigger the order, the bigger the prick.

It was true during my year of “soul searching” after high school graduation, bartending at El Gallo on Espanola Way, when sunburnt moms sent back LITs for being too strong.

It was true the year after that at the Old Post in Missoula, Montana when diet-obsessed sorority girls asked for the Country House Special Sauce Deluxe burger, but, you know, without the onions and tomatoes and, oh, no special sauce.

And it was true, when I made health shakes at Super Green Joe’s in Brooklyn the year after that. If I hear “is that protein gluten-soy-dairy-free and fair trade?” one more time…

Now at The Red Cup, Mr. Tall Vanilla Latte No Whip, No Foam, Extra shot, Half Skim, Half Whole, Pump of Hazelnut is a pretty big prick.”

Also, Feliz Cinco de Mayo!

Today is the launch of LOVE ON THE LEDGE, book 2 in the On The Verge series.

I’m going to tell you about it (briefly) in photos. The novel is about Sky Lopez.

Sky! (Naya Rivera)

She’s in an inbetween time in her life. So she turns to planning her favorite uncle’s wedding. As one does.

She’s accompanied by her cousin Leti, and BFF River.

She isn’t looking for love, but enter Hayden Robertson, a roofer with a heart of gold. Lets have a big shout out for #TeamNiceGuy

Hayden (Matt Barr)

They’re all in the Hamptons. While Sky is trying to plan the wedding, it is a whole lot of Murphy’s Law. But there’s the beach, and Hayden, and kissing.

BUT Hayden and Sky have problems! They both have baggage and in comes their issues. Not to mention Sky’s family is a little bit intrusive. Also, there’s this guy named Xandro who really thinks he and Sky belong together. He has a big ego.

Xandro (Justin Baldoni)

Oh, yeah, Sky and her family are Ecuadorian-American (It’s a real thing I promise)

But back to Sky and Hayden. Did I mention Hayden?

Moar Hayden

That’s a super brief not-actual-summary of LOVE ON THE LEDGE. I loved writing this book. Thank you all for your support.

From Chapter 10 – Testing the Waters

…“Hey, hey there, Lyla.” Liam tried to be consoling. “We all agree with you, don’t we guys?” The two youngest nodded their heads in silent agreement. “See? We’re all with you on this. This was just a first step. A semi-test. We just needed to stretch it out and see what it could do, what e could do with what we’ve got. We, none of us except for Tillie here, have really had a chance to see what we’re capable of in this department. This was just to see it in action. What is the trouble with that? Are you okay, Lyla? Lyla?” Liam grabbed her arm as she rose.

Lyla levitated. She suddenly straightened into a standing position and brought  Liam up with her. She felt very powerful. Liam felt a surge of energy from her arm. He released her like he’d been shocked. Suddenly, the wind picked up coming off the ocean. The waves crashed into the shore and their blankets got soaked. The tide came in fast. Faster than they had ever seen it. Tillie scrambled around and tried to gather their things while she kept a worried eye on Lyla.

“Lyles! Lyla! What’s wrong? What did we do? Stop it, please!” Tillie shouted as she and Adrian picked up the bag and blankets. She looked as though she was about to cry. Adrian put his arm around her and they took a step back from Lyla and Liam.

The tide rushed in around their feet. It was fast and strong. In and out and
every time it came in, there was a bit more water. Tillie wanted to run. She was scared. Adrian sensed her fear and held her fast.

“It’s going to be okay!” He had to shout over the wind.

The rest of the people on the beach cleared out fast. Fires were put out by the
rushing tide and people scattered upward toward the town. The four of them were alone now on the beach. Liam stood in front of Lyla, between her and the ocean. “Lyla! Stop this! It’s okay! It’s going to be alright!” He shouted at the top of his lungs, but it was as if no one was even in front of her at all. She threw her arms up and looked possessed. Tillie buried her head into Adrian’s shoulder and wept. Adrian dragged her a few more steps back, away from shore.

Liam remembered just then what Lyla had said about Mom touching her arm and ‘bringing her back to earth’. He grabbed both her arms in the air. There was a strike of lightning across the water and a loud crack of thunder just as Liam flew back and landed in the next incoming wave. Lyla also flew back and landed softly in the surf. She was sitting upright and her eyes grew big. Her arms fell by her side and she fell back into the water, unconscious.
Liam was the first to her side and picked her head up out of the water. Tillie
screamed as Adrian ran over to help Liam. The surf calmed down and Liam picked Lyla up out of it and carried her away from the water.

As they walked away from the ocean, it receded to its normal level. The wind
turned steadier and died down. Lyla hung in Liam’s arms like a wet rag doll. Tillie had tears streaming down her face. Her hands over her mouth, she followed silently behind them.

As they reached dry sand, all they could hear was the soft surf and Tillie
muttering, “Oh my God. Oh my God. Oh my God,” over and over. Liam placed Lyla down in the sand as gently as he could. Adrian stood just behind him, to Liam’s right.

“Is she alright? Is she conscious yet? Tillie, will you please stop?” Adrian turned around and grabbed Tillie’s shoulders. He grabbed so hard she jumped, then was silent. He eased up on his grip looking at her apologetically.

“Oh, God! Oh, God! What happened? What did we do? Did we do this, Ade? Oh, God!” Tillie was properly hysterical now. She went back to her mumbling.
