Team Purple S2016

***** Meet Sophie Lira! Author of SAFE WITH YOU *****

Sophie Lira grew up smack dab in the middle of New Jersey. As a self-proclaimed sports junkie she can usually be found rooting for the New York Yankees, Baltimore Ravens, and especially her Alma Mater, Rutgers University. She’s also a proud beer snob with a preference for crisp pilsners, pumpkin anything, and chocolatey stouts. Her number one passion outside of writing is her never-ending wanderlust. She still resides in Central New Jersey and spends her days writing and pouring pints at a local brewery. Favorite things include: Dunkin’ Donuts coconut iced coffee, the Olympics, all-you-can-eat sushi, and Siberian Huskies.

***** SAFE WITH YOU *****

Olivia Simon is starting over in the Big Easy. Her new job as a yoga instructor means she gets to pursue her passion while giving her the motivation she needs to get back on track. But she’s scared. Really scared. Scared her abusive ex-boyfriend will find her. Scared of all things that go bump in the night… and day. She knows her ex will have a claim on her future happiness unless she can find her own peace. Which starts with Kyle.

Kyle Avery, a former college baseball player on the brink of going pro, is also starting over. His dream since Little League was shattered when a jealous rival went too far in a pre-season game. After a few surgeries, all Kyle is left with are a few rods in his leg, a rebuilt knee, and no idea who he is without baseball. But when he trades center field for a yoga mat, he finds solace in a way he never imagined. Kyle knows there’s something about Olivia. Something he needs to move forward.

But Olivia loves to run and it’s too soon for her to be playing house. Olivia and Kyle want to invest in each other, but the secrets they’ve kept take a dangerous turn when Olivia’s past returns with a vengeance. Devastated and helpless, Olivia wonders who she can really trust, and Kyle questions if he ever will be able to keep her safe.

Bonus scene from chapter 7

My phone vibrates in my pocket and my eyes go wide when Tyler’s name pops up on the screen. I press my fingertip to my ear as static comes through the speaker. “Ty? Hold on a sec, I have crappy service.” I cover my palm over the edge of the phone. “Hey, I’ll be back out in a minute. It’s my brother.”

“Ollie?” Tyler says, louder. “Can you hear me?”

“Hey, Ty. How’s school?” I smile that he actually took the time to call me back. We have a seriously fucked up relationship. Ever since he left for Los Angeles, I feel like he wants nothing to do with me. Even when I called him hysterical about me and Braden, he brushed it off and practically hung up on me. He knew what Braden was doing and how he was treating me, but seemingly didn’t care.

“It’s good.” His voice muffles and drops out as he talks to someone. “Listen, I have bad news about your—”

“No, you promised me!” My voice rises in anger and I stalk out to the parking lot. “I haven’t seen you in over a year. I miss you so much.”

“I know, I miss you, too. But, my girlfriend wants me to meet her parents in San Francisco. They’re paying. I really like her, Ollie.”

And I’m your sister, asshole.

“It’s my…” I haven’t had a good birthday, ever. “Please, don’t you care about me?”

“Of course I do, and I’m sorry. I promise I’ll make it up to you.” He doesn’t even sound sincere, only a robotic response I’ve grown accustomed to throughout the years. “I’m late for work. I need to go. Love you.”

The line goes out and I nearly smash my phone into the gravel. Black dots from my mascara speckle my wrist as I wipe away the tears. I give up holding the pressure building in my chest as I lean against Kyle’s car and let the tears fly.

“Liv?” Kyle jogs over and wraps me in a hug. “Hey, stop. What’s wrong?”

I don’t care how sweaty and grimy he is from the field. The comfort I’ve been looking for my whole life explodes with his touch. I bury my face into his damp shirt and let out the emotion that’s been bottled up for weeks. I’m so sick of Tyler pushing me away and acting like I’m some random friend from high school. Everyone except Natasha bails on me and I don’t know how much more I can handle.

That was pretty rad! Don’t forget to add it to your TBR or go ahead and buy a copy! Make sure you

Make sure you enter the contest for a chance to win a ton of signed books by me, Stacey Kade, Amanda Heger, and more!
